Pulling Up the Drawbridge

drawbridgeSelf-care is not selfish. You can’t serve from an empty vessel. –Eleanor Brownn

I read an article earlier today where a mother advised her daughter, who had just had a baby and was overwhelmed by visitors to “pull up the drawbridge,” to, essentially, focus on her immediate family and not worry about others. How many of us could stand to do this in certain moments? And don’t?

I get the impulse to care for others and to maintain relationships, I really do. But what about when you need to direct more time to you? If you are like me and need to work on this, please take this as your permission. Whenever you need to take care of you, that is what you should prioritize.

Pull up the drawbridge, and be unapologetic.
